This is a self-driven route through Scotland's most dramatic terrain -- from Edinburgh's historic castle north into the misty peaks and dark lochs of the Highlands, out to the sea cliffs of Skye, and back through Ben Nevis country. We handle the campervan or car rental, route planning, and lodging; you handle the driving and the stops that make you pull over.

A private guided tour of Edinburgh Castle before setting out north
A self-guided (or guide-led, on request) hike up Ben Nevis, Scotland's tallest peak and the collapsed remains of an ancient volcano
Two full days exploring the Isle of Skye's coastal cliffs, including the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing
A stop through Cairngorms National Park, with wildlife-spotting for red deer and golden eagles along the way
A whisky distillery tour and tasting near Fort William to close out the trip
Where you'll stay
A mix of a converted campervan (fully outfitted, if you want the flexibility) or a series of Highland inns and countryside lodges, chosen for character over chain-hotel polish. Fort William stays end the trip at the base of Ben Nevis.
Best time to go
May-September for the longest daylight and best odds of clear mountain views; September also brings quieter roads and the start of autumn color.
